On March 24, 2025, Dropbox Capture will be discontinued. This change will allow us to focus on building the best collaboration tools for your work within our core Dropbox product.
You’ll no longer be able to access your Capture desktop app, or Capture from your web browser. This means that you won’t be able to create new screenshots, GIFs, or screen, audio, or video recordings in Capture. You also won’t be able to download the Capture desktop app or refer other people to Capture.
You’ll also lose access to the Capture Collections surface. Any content within your Collections that you own will still be accessible through Dropbox within your “Capture” folder. This won’t impact your storage limits, as previously created Capture content has already been counted towards your storage. If you have permission to access a Collection but don’t own the files, you won’t be able to see those files once Capture is discontinued.

Your captures are already saved by default in a Dropbox folder named “Capture,” and you won’t lose access to these files. If you’ve changed the default save location for your Captures to another folder, you can still access your captures in that folder.
If you’ve been using Team Collections to share capture content with your team, the shared content will now be saved in the “Capture” folder of its creator. In order to maintain access for your team, you’ll need to move this content to a shared folder.
Links to captures you’ve previously shared will redirect to a Dropbox file link and open as a Dropbox file preview. Any comments on your captures will also be viewable within Dropbox file preview.
Serve forse a qualcosa suggerire di utilizzare gli strumenti messi a disposizione dal proprio dispositivo per continuare a fare quello che, fino a oggi, Dropbox Capture ha fatto più che egregiamente? No, direi di no.
Avevo ricevuto un’e-mail che mi anticipava questa “novità” non molto tempo fa (20 febbraio scorso), l’ho lasciata lì per qualche tempo, “da leggere“, nonostante avessi già capito molto bene di cosa si trattasse.
Dropbox Capture è stato per molto tempo un progetto collaterale, con qualche problema di gioventù (risolto brillantemente nel tempo), certo, ma fondamentalmente funzionante, leggero, in grado di fare esattamente quello per cui veniva messo a disposizione: catturare audio e video (con anche il tuo bel faccione ripreso dalla Webcam, se necessario) mentre mostravi qualcosa direttamente dal tuo PC. L’ho apprezzato e spesso utilizzato (e consigliato), è tornato immensamente utile per mostrare errori, procedure, passo-passo per utenti meno avvezzi.
Di certo non utilizzavo la funzione integrata per la cattura degli screenshot, ma poco male, per quella ormai da anni mi appoggio felicemente a GreenShot (in alternativa, qui c’è un mio vecchio articolo che analizza la cattura immagini su ambo i sistemi che sono solito utilizzare: Catturare immagini su Windows e macOS).
Eppure eccoci qui, ennesimo esperimento realizzato, mantenuto e poi abbandonato “come fossi una bambola“. Infastidito? Assai. Ci si può fare qualcosa? Sì, farsene una ragione. Dallo scorso 24 marzo, capture.dropbox.com viene automaticamente rediretto al documento di termine supporto: help.dropbox.com/installs/dropbox-capture-end-of-support. Io porto le mie pive nel sacco e rimango orfano di uno strumento così banale e leggero su Windows, fermo restando che quello integrato non mi piace, e se devo fare qualcosa di più “corposo” chiedo ancora aiuto a Captura (nonostante non venga più mantenuto manco lui, mathewsachin.github.io/blog/2023/04/09/captura-unmaintained.html).
